Santillana del Mar

Santillana del Mar

Santillana del Mar is one of the most important historic and artistic towns in Spain, meaning it is one of the most visited and attractive places in the region.

The town is home to architectural gems, with the Colegiata de Santa Juliana being the most symbolic building in Santillana del Mar and the most important Romanesque structure in Cantabria.

To speak of Santillana del Mar is to also speak of the Cave of Altamira, which is known as the "Sistine Chapel of cave paintings". It contains probably the most famous prehistoric paintings in the world.

The town of Santillana del Mar is the scene of intense cultural activity that takes place throughout the year in its different exhibition centres and museums.

El Soplao Cave

El Soplao Cave

El Soplao is a delight for anyone who visits it. You can enjoy a walk that will astonish you with the spectacular nature, abundance and diversity of its eccentric formations, which have made El Soplao "a unique cave". The play between light, shadow and colour creates a truly unique sensory experience.

In addition it its geological importance, the cave and its surrounding area are of significant archaeological value due to its mining industry history, boasting more than 20 km of galleries. Mining has also left its mark on the outdoors: pit frames, calcination furnaces, washing sites, workshops and other distinctive features of this industry are evident. Mining works were based on the extraction of sphalerite and galena, two of the best ores for obtaining zinc and lead respectively.

Santoña Port

Santoña Port

Santoña is a coastal town surrounded, almost completely, by the Cantabrian Sea. It is around 48 kilometres away from Santander.

Among the points of interest worth visiting in this town are the fishing port, the new part of the marina and the Santoña, Victoria and Joyel Marshes Natural Park. This park is one of the largest areas in northern Spain, covering more than 6600 hectares.

Santoña's port has been growing since the 19th century, becoming a symbolic infrastructure and one of the most important on the Cantabrian Coast, with regards to fishing.

Cabárceno

Cabárceno

Cabárceno Natural Park is a natural paradise of 750 hectares. It is home to hundreds of animal species from across the five continents. The area is divided into large areas where one or several species live in semi-freedom. The habitat is as natural as possible, except with regards to food, which is provided by keepers. All other activities are noted by almost total freedom and instinct.

This is the perfect place for a family day out as - in addition to being able to walk the more than 20 kilometres of roads that reach the different areas where you can enjoy nature in all its glory with its gorges, lakes, large rocks and more - the park has recreational areas, picnic areas, view points, restaurants, parking and a playground, amongst other features.

Picos de Europa

Picos de Europa

This is a mountain range that forms the central part of the Cantabrian Mountains. Although it is not very extensive (its total area amounts to 64,600 hectares), its proximity to the sea (being just 15 kilometres away at its most northern point) affords it abundant, notable geographic features and stunning beauty. Furthermore, the Picos de Europa is famous for its height, exceeding 2,500 metres at various points.

Fuente Dé

Fuente Dé

Fuente Dé, which is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Cantabria due to its impressive beauty, is located in the foothills of the Picos de Europa mountain range where the Deva River begins its journey. Here, you will be able to enjoy spectacular scenery, green meadows, mountains and more. The town also has different facilities you can make use of to enjoy a pleasant day in Fuente Dé, including picnic spots, restaurants and souvenir shops.

The landscape that surrounds Fuente Dé also offers you the chance to enjoy a ride on its famous cable car, which overcomes the height difference between the departure station at Fuente Dé (1,094 metres above sea level) and the Cable View Point (1,847 metres above sea level). The view point is a balcony from which you can take in the unique scenery of this area.

Many hikers visit this town due to its easy access to the Puertos de Aliva mountains.

Isla

Isla

Isla has become one of the most popular holiday destinations among all kinds of visitors, but particularly among those who appreciate comfort, nature, good food and quality.

The village is located in the north of the country, under Ursa Mayor. What was once a town can still be glimpsed today from the small peninsula: a precipitous grassland stranded amidst the Cantabrian Sea, with the Cabo de Quejo as its figurehead.

Isla is currently a peninsula located between the estuaries of Castellano and Quejo and the Cantabrian Sea. Thanks to its location, it enjoys a coastal outline rich with different landscapes, ranging from extensive beaches with golden sands to small coves and impressive cliffs hanging over the Cantabrian Sea.

Mogro

Mogro

The old part of Mogro is located on a hill and is dotted by the districts of Cavadilla, El Monte and Cabezón. The estuary and El Cueto de Mogro are the spaces that stand out the most in the geography of this town. The Pas delta is located to the north and east of the town. El Cueto de Mogro, with its conical form, occupies a large part of the area to the south.

The town has multiple tourist points of interest, including San Martín Church, which is Mogro's oldest structure. It is currently undergoing repair works that aim to preserve an essential part of our historic patrimony.

Santander

Santander

Santander is a Spanish port city and the capital of the Cantabrian region. It is situated on the northern coast of the Iberian Peninsula. The municipality of Santander borders those of Santa Cruz de Bezana and Camargo. Both of the latter towns have become joined to the city centre with the passing of time. Santander is an incredibly important academic and tourist destination in northern Spain.

El Sardinero is the city's most popular tourist district. Within it, you will find the stadium of the local football team, Real Racing Club de Santander, as well as the beaches of El Sardinero, La Concha, Mataleñas, El Camello and La Magdalena. It also boasts the Palace of La Magdalena and various Belle Epoque houses. Castilla-Hermida is famous for being a central area with a huge amount of services. El Alisal is a fairly new district, which has some of the best services available in the city (a shopping centre, multinational businesses, regional and international restaurants and more). It is also the location of the Technology and Science Park (Parque Científico y Tecnológico) where the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (UNEATLANTICO) campus is located.

Santander has numerous "Bienes de Interés Cultural" (significant points of interest in Spain), such as Santander Cathedral, the Prehistory and Archaeology of Cantabria Museum and the Municipal Museum of Fine Arts.
